Utilizing real stellar coordinate catalogs, users can pan across the celestial sphere, view astronomical coordinates in Right Ascension (RA) and Declination (Dec), and draw custom glowing constellations connecting real navigational stars.

Understanding the Celestial Coordinate System

Astronomers map the sky using spherical coordinates projected onto the celestial sphere: Right Ascension (RA) measures angular distance eastward along the celestial equator in hours, minutes, and seconds ($0\text{h}$–$24\text{h}$), while Declination (Dec) measures angle north ($+90^\circ$) or south ($-90^\circ$). In Constellation Draw, stars are color-coded by their spectral classification (from burning blue O/B stars like Rigel to cool red M supergiants like Betelgeuse and Antares).
